EP 12 - Valentines's Special with DJs Vandal and ERBN

aired: 02-13-12

Happy Valentine's Day. ♥

This is a day that sucks for a lot of people, I’ll give you that. But you don’t need to let it. Don’t have someone special? You have friends and family that love you, don’t you? Show them love. Buy a friendly stranger a box of chocolates or give a someone you know a goofy homemade card.
Love is about giving, so give everyone you know lots of love and appreciation today and every other day of the year.
Whats is LOVE?

Charlie Chaplin once said that "True Love is the greatest of all frustrations because it can never be FULLY expressed". That's profound and everything, but I say "True Love is one of the craziest shit you will ever experience in your lifetime"...Can I get an "Amen"?
So who is Saint Valentine you ask?

Google it! Lazy ass!
Here is a quick history on the priest St. Valentine…
Claudius Two outlawed marriage for young men so that they can serve the emperor's army better. But St. Valentine secretly helped the young couples to get married which led to his imprisonment and order of his death by the Emperor. Priest St. Valentine felled in love with the jailer's daughter during the imprisonment. Before he was executed, he wrote a letter to his love and at then end of letter wrote "From your Valentine". Although there is no conclusive evidence to decide about the authenticity of the stories but the myths certainly emphasizes St. Valentine as a heroic, sympathetic and above all a romantic figure.
Speaking of myths...
What is the perfect gift?

All you need to keep in mind is that Valentine's Day is all about love and romance. It doesn't matter whether your gift is an inexpensive one or a simple card. Love doesn't require a penny to spread its magic. Just pick the right thing for your sweetheart that would hold the true spirit of romance and/or gratitude.

EP. 10 - with DJs Woody and Bravoh

Aired: 1-23-12

RIP ETTA JAMES

Thank you for the music Etta James. You will be missed, but your music will live on forever. Our sassy sister of soul and rock and roll has left us after a rough start she pulled through creating an astounding legacy that she has left behind for all of us to enjoy. You can even hear a song of hers on the radio today on the TOP 40s in "Good Feeling" by Flo Rida samples her earlier song "Something’s got a hold on me."
Her Funeral was on 01-28-12 and at the funeral an emotional (and menstruating) Christina Aguilera performed a stirring rendition of James’ 1960 soul classic “At Last” for James’ family. I don’t give a shit what people say, I think she tore the mufuckin’ roof off! I love her out of control riffs + gorgeous notes - definitely a wonderful homage to Etta. Her outfit is a bit questionable but she kept it real in my opinion. I know a few people that got a little misty eyed by the end of her perfomance (okay it was Mehone lol). Here is the video of her performance.

Now, that’s a tribute!!! Thank God they didn’t have you know WHO butcher this song any further.

Side bar/note: Not sure of its blood, anal leakage, or that fake tan cream mixed with coochie sweat...but it sure was buzz worthy!

Here is a breakdown of the show:

DJ MehOne vs LAPD

i was warned by LAPD officer Hernandez that I was speeding but told to me in a disrespectful manner. He told me in a "hey motherfucker we don't appreciate speeders around here" in a thugish way. I informed the officer that i didnt appreciate the way he was talking to me. I was then asked to keep "moving" and we drove off. i decided to follow them to get their info so i could make a police report on this officer. I called my mom and told her to write down their plates and Car ID number; also told her that i may get arrested for doing this. I called the only number i know/remember and asked them to keep it on cuz i may go to prison. I then pull up next to the officer and asked him for his badge number. They ask me to pull over and i was asked to exit my car. He then starts switching his story telling me that i got out my car and charged them...and doesnt acknowledge that he used Fuck or motherfucker to address me. i started recording about 5 minutes into my convo with the LAPD officers.
i started recording again when the supervisors were walking toward me and my phone died. I stay talking to the supervisor about 20 minutes after the phone died. I made my report and i hope the officer gets some disciplinary training/action.
PEOPLE REMEMBER LAPD OFFICERS ARE WORKING AND HAVE A SUPERVISOR and can be reported just how you speak to a manager if a waiter fucks up your order.

Please note: i was super nervous or maybe it was just an adrenaline rush but i was stuttering and not speaking/thinking clearly. also I censored (no sopa lol) my place of employment/title and street were i live

no lie i played this song after driving away for this incident!
A.l.l.a.h. was in control!

Ep. 07 with Guest: DJ Bravoh and DJ Hollywood

Aired: 1-2-12

Hey, hey, hey! It’s 2012!

Let’s start off the year right. This post is going to be filled with cheesy cliches :D
IT’S 2012! Do you know what that means? It means new beginnings, new chapters in life, new loves, new awakenings! It’s going to be filled with new friendships and directing energy towards partnerships. Well, at least that’s what my Yahoo! horoscope says.
It is time for a change. Time to open yourselves up and be willing to meet and explore new things, new people and new aspects of yourself.
And maybe I’m just writing this for myself, but still. I feel really good about 2012. And I’ve never felt that way about a year before. I always thought it was dumb. But now… I kind of get it. Some people need that fresh start. Whether it be every year or every six years. Fresh starts are what keep people interesting, I think. And whether they write a long ass essay like this or a short one liner stating a resolution or a wish. I get it now.
New Year. New Beginnings. Not necessarily a new me, just… a better US.

& May the new year bring you joy and happiness and love.

now lets talk about our first show of 2012...

DJ MehOne's Top 5 Albums of 2011

#5. Tyler, The Creator - Goblin

A year ago, very few people knew Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All. I knew them as those annoying kids chilling on Fairfax at the Supreme store. I cant blame them I was young and did the stupid thing they do; like Bambu says on "OLD MAN RAPS". Like Stacie Guillermo mentioned on her blog "I began the year being an ecstatic supporter of Odd Future (mainly due to Tyler & that Jimmy Fallon late night show performance); so when this album dropped I had to have it". I too began supporting them after watching their performance. The album did not disappoint and lived up to the hype. I still play it and see myself adding it to the classics in the future. Odd Future have a BIG BIG online presence and as you can tell a big stage presence as well! i think that's why i like them. i just hope they don't ruin their career online like Charles Hamilton.
i would love to hear a serious interview with Tyler on his music production.

Favorite Tracks: She, Her, Sandwitches, and Yonkers

#4. Frank Ocean-Nostalgia,Ultra

2011 marked the first time that R&B made a comeback since the late 90's/early 00's. Frank Ocean was like a breath of fresh air on the radio waves. i love how in "Novacane" he is able to describe passionately about his lack of passion. The lyrics and production is on point from song to song. In "Swim Good", you get a taste of what the whole album is about and also what R&B music is missing. Frank Ocean can be heard in "No Church in the Wild" off the Watch the Throne.

Favorite Tracks: Novacane, We All Try, American Wedding, and Nature Feel"

# 3. Charles Bradley – No Time for Dreaming

No Time For Dreaming opens up with "The World (Is Going Up In Flames)" and you automatically get a taste of what you're in for in this album. Just listen the emotions pouring into his songs and his delivery that well can evocative delivery of Otis Redding. Charles is 62 year-old and has walked a LONG path chasing his dream and lays a lot of this out for the listener in "Why Is It So Hard". In "Loving You Baby" you can feel the emotion that he has for his women and makes it clear that home is where the heart is. Major respect for Thomas Brenneck for working/discovering Charles's talent.

Favorite Songs: THE WHOLE ALBUM!

# 2. The Weeknd - House of Balloons/Thursday/Echos of Silence

I knew The Weeknd was going to be included in my list but couldn't decided which album; so ALL 3 albums released this year are my # 2 pick. The first release off the 3 is House of Balloons and boy what an album! from begining to end it is a banger/panty dropin' of an album. This is a perfect album to start or end your night with. Abel Tesfaye a.k.a. The Weeknd is a very talented signer/writer. This was the song that introduced me to his music, and still my favorite. He can be heard on Drake's Take Care album in the song "Crew Love". You’ll be hearing a lot from this guy in 2012. I have no doubt more than a few babies were made to his music in 2011. "High For This" can summarize their sound and you will understand my love for these 3 albums.
Favorite tracks: Wicked Games, D.D., Gone, High For This, and What You Need.

(Drum roll please)
AND MY PICK FOR ALBUM OF THE YEAR IS...

# 1. Jay-Z and Kanye West - Watch the Throne

I love this album as a DJ because any song you play; everyone will know the lyrics. This is a great album, but not a classic. This is our generation's Doggystyle. The beats are on point and it features two (3 if you count Kanye) of my favorite producers 88-keys (No Church in the Wild) and RZA (New Day. I feel like kanye could of done better on some tracks and that Jay-Z sounded like he was not in his comfort zone. However, this album made me a Jay-Z fan.

sorry but Amy Winehouse's album was good but didnt made it to my top 5.

SONGS OF THE YEAR:
M.E.D. - Blaxican

Pusha T ft. Tyler, The Creator - Trouble On My Mind

thank you for reading this!!!

While everyone is making New Years resolutions, I will make a promise to myself to be the same person at 12:01 that I was at 11:59. 2012 will be for me another 12 months, 52 weeks, 365 days, 8,736 hours, 524,160 minutes, 31,449,600 seconds of growth and experience...also a second chance to eat right :D
